Adjustable Stroke Power Press Overview

Adjustable Stroke. One Press for Every Job.

The KAVDO Adjustable Stroke Power Press (JE23 & JE21 Series) features a worm-gear stroke adjustment mechanism that allows continuous stroke length tuning from minimum to maximum without stopping the press. This eliminates the need for multiple fixed-stroke presses and dramatically reduces setup time when switching between different die sets and forming operations.

Built on a stress-relieved welded steel C-frame with six-sided rectangular slide guides, the press delivers consistent accuracy and rigidity at any stroke setting — from shallow punching to deep drawing in a single machine.

  • Continuously adjustable stroke from 10 mm to full stroke
  • Worm-gear adjustment mechanism with locking indicator
  • Pneumatic clutch & brake with hydraulic overload protection
  • FEA-optimized welded steel frame with ribbed reinforcement
  • Motorized slide adjustment for quick die height changes

Key Advantages

The KAVDO adjustable stroke power press combines the versatility of variable stroke with the precision and reliability of a fixed-stroke mechanical press — in one cost-effective machine.

Continuously Variable Stroke

The worm-gear stroke adjustment mechanism allows infinite stroke length settings from minimum to maximum. Operators can fine-tune the stroke to match exact die requirements — short strokes for punching thin materials, long strokes for deep drawing — all without changing mechanical components or stopping production.

Higher Productivity at Short Strokes

When the stroke is reduced, the press runs at a proportionally higher SPM rate — up to 140 strokes per minute on the JE23-16T model. For thin-material punching and blanking operations that only need 20–30 mm of stroke, this translates to significantly higher output compared to fixed-stroke presses running at full stroke length.

Maximum Die Flexibility

One adjustable stroke press replaces 2–3 fixed-stroke machines. Whether you run progressive dies, compound dies, bending dies or drawing dies — the stroke adjusts to each one. Combined with motorized slide adjustment for die height, changeover between completely different jobs takes minutes, not hours.

Comprehensive Safety System

Dual solenoid safety valves, emergency stop buttons on both sides, top-dead-center stopping, hydraulic overload protection and optional photoelectric light curtain guards. Stroke position indicator and lock mechanism ensure the press cannot operate at an unintended stroke setting.

Reduced Noise & Vibration

Running at a shorter stroke reduces ram travel, impact velocity and noise. For light punching operations, reducing the stroke to the minimum needed lowers workshop noise by up to 6 dB and significantly reduces vibration transferred to the foundation — improving operator comfort and extending die life.

Lower Total Cost of Ownership

One adjustable stroke press eliminates the capital cost, floor space and maintenance of multiple fixed-stroke machines. The shorter stroke option also reduces energy consumption per stroke, bearing wear and clutch/brake wear — lowering operating costs by 20–35% over the machine’s lifetime compared to running full stroke continuously.

Not Sure Which Stroke Range You Need?

Our engineers will analyze your die set requirements and recommend the optimal press tonnage and stroke range for your production mix.

Machine Structure

Precision-engineered with a variable-eccentric crankshaft drive, worm-gear stroke adjustment and advanced pneumatic clutch system — built for decades of versatile, reliable stamping production.

    Welded Steel C-Frame

Stress-relieved welded steel plate frame with FEA-optimized internal ribbing. The C-frame design provides three-sided access to the die area for easy workpiece loading, while maintaining rigidity under full tonnage at all stroke settings.

  • 2

    Variable-Eccentric Drive

The adjustable stroke mechanism uses a precision worm-gear and eccentric sleeve system on the crankshaft. Turning the adjustment wheel changes the eccentricity — and therefore the stroke length — continuously and infinitely between minimum and maximum values.

  • 3

    Pneumatic Clutch & Brake

Dry-type pneumatic friction clutch and brake with <50 ms engagement. Supports single-stroke, continuous and inching modes. Clutch linings are self-adjusting for consistent performance over their full service life.

  • 4

    Six-Sided Slide Guides

Precision-fitted rectangular slide with six-sided gibbed guides eliminates lateral play and ensures parallelism between the slide bottom and bolster surface at every stroke length setting. Bronze-lined gibs are adjustable for zero-clearance operation.

  • 5

    Hydraulic Overload Protection

Built-in hydraulic overload device releases instantly when tonnage exceeds the rated capacity, protecting the crankshaft, connecting rod, slide and die from damage. Auto-reset after overload release — no manual intervention needed.

Variable Stroke Adjustment System

The heart of the KAVDO Adjustable Stroke Power Press is its worm-gear eccentric sleeve mechanism. Unlike fixed-stroke presses where the crankshaft eccentricity is permanently set during manufacturing, this system uses a precision worm gear to rotate an eccentric sleeve around the crankpin — continuously changing the effective throw (stroke) from minimum to maximum.

The stroke adjustment is performed via a handwheel with a graduated scale and mechanical locking indicator. Once the desired stroke is set and locked, the press operates with the same rigidity, precision and repeatability as a fixed-stroke machine. No hydraulic or electronic systems are involved — the mechanism is purely mechanical for maximum reliability.

4-Step Versatile Stamping Workflow

From quick-change die setups to optimized production runs — the adjustable stroke power press adapts to every job with minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.

1

Set Stroke & Die Height

Adjust the stroke length to match the die’s forming depth using the handwheel and graduated scale. Set the motorized slide adjustment to match the die’s shut height. Lock both settings — the press is now configured for the job in under 2 minutes.

2

Load & Position

Feed sheet metal strip or blanks into the die area. The three-sided C-frame access allows loading from front, left or right. Use manual feeding, roller feeds or servo feeds depending on production volume and material type.

3

Press & Form

Engage the press in single-stroke or continuous mode. The pneumatic clutch engages and the variable-eccentric crankshaft drives the slide through precisely the stroke length needed — no wasted travel, no unnecessary energy consumption, no excess noise.

4

Eject & Repeat

Parts eject through the bolster hole or are removed from the die. In continuous mode with automatic feeding, the press runs at optimized SPM for the set stroke length. Switch to a different job by simply adjusting the stroke and die height — no mechanical changeover required.
